It came from the Defense Department (DoD) to combat cyberattacks, although the wording of the contract led Elon Musk, chieftain of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), to mischaracterize it on X.<\/p>\n<h4 id=\"h-reuters-gets-rich-on-taxpayers-dime\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Reuters Gets Rich on Taxpayers\u2019 Dime<\/h4>\n<p>The federal government\u2019s out-of-control spending has been the focus of DOGE since President Donald Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/01\/establishing-and-implementing-the-presidents-department-of-government-efficiency\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">created it<\/a> by executive order on Inauguration Day.<\/p>\n<p>Since Trump took office, more and more evidence of waste, fraud, and abuse <a href=\"https:\/\/thenewamerican.com\/us\/usaid-employees-put-on-leave-for-refusing-doge-access-to-files-agencys-controverisal-funding-exposed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">has surfaced<\/a> on social media, much of it from USAspending.gov. Although the <a href=\"https:\/\/thenewamerican.com\/us\/usaid-threatens-to-sue-ernst-for-fraud-inquiry-omar-backs-usaid-for-money-to-somalia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">scandalous data<\/a> have always been available, only when Musk began looking into spending did the material go viral.<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/thenewamerican.com\/us\/report-cia-usaid-linked-to-first-trump-impeachment-aps-take-from-taxpayers-almost-40m\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>The New American <\/em>reported<\/a> last week, AP and the <em>Times <\/em>have raked in millions of taxpayer dollars, as has the hate-Trump <em>Politico<\/em>. The total for the three is upwards of $100 million.<\/p>\n<p>But Reuters has been an especially favored beneficiary of taxpayer money.
